At my book signing at the sci-fi convention last month, I spread my five novels out on the table before me, along with assorted business cards, book marks, and short descriptions of the stories.\u00a0 I also started to reread my works so that I would remember what I wrote in case someone asked me for specifics.\u00a0 I only got as far as The Fifth Prophet<\/em>, which was written eight years ago.
\nThe good news is that I have become a better writer over time.\u00a0 The bad news is that I need to do a few more passes through the first manuscript.\u00a0 At first I saw no way to fix the \u201cnear future\u201d aspect of that story.\u00a0 That issue is why I set Time Travelers Are Schizophrenic<\/em> two hundred years into the future; science fiction that is on the verge of reality tends to become real very, very quickly.\u00a0 Thus it loses something in the story.\u00a0 Some of my \u201cprophecies\u201d have come true already, especially the \u201cVCLs\u201d now commonly known as Google Glasses or their competitors.\u00a0 At the time, wearable technology was still a military thing supported by DARPA.
\nAnother literary problem was that my universe evolved as the books were created, so that I needed to be sure that what I hypothesized about the reality of the universe and faster than light space travel was still consistent.\u00a0 Luckily, the \u201cmetaverse\u201d solves the problem.\u00a0 My \u201cnear future\u201d apocalypse happened in one of the parallel strings of universes within the metaverse; a simple preface to the revised edition, and voila!\u00a0 Consistency.\u00a0 That parallel universe is very, very close to our own, so that maybe much of The Fifth Prophet<\/em> will still occur to us here.\u00a0 Madame President, aka Hilary Clinton, still has an outside chance of winning.\u00a0 Donald Trump might actually suggest the \u201cannexation of Mexico.\u201d\u00a0 Nuclear war in the Middle East doesn\u2019t need Bin Laden to start it.
\nSo, Perturbations Of The Reality Field<\/em> is waiting for me to return and complete it, while I revise and resubmit The Fifth Prophet<\/em> with a new cover that matches the series.\u00a0 I hope you will continue your support and interest in my writing.\u00a0 Now, back to \u201cPhillipsville.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
