Dick, is all about the nature of reality and the soul.\u00a0 If I had read <em>Ubik<\/em> before plunging half-way through his <em>Exegesis<\/em> I would have missed much of the meaning.\u00a0 Even so, this is a complicated book that could be analyzed indefinitely.\u00a0 It begins with a relatively simple concept of frozen bodies in \u201ccoldpacs\u201d so that their souls continue in \u201chalf-life\u201d before fading away towards heaven or hell.\u00a0 Sort of a high tech purgatory?\u00a0 When one character, Runciter, visits his half-dead wife to speak with her about how to handle problems in their joint business venture, a problem arises.\u00a0 He is told, \u201cShe exists.\u00a0 She just can\u2019t contact you.\u201d\u00a0 He replies, \u201cA metaphysical difference which means nothing to me.\u201d\u00a0 Metaphysical details dominate the rest of the story, although they are well hidden behind the bizarre plotline.\u00a0 xxx<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ubik, by Philip K.
