- Kunnigunde Wolf: (Human) ... the poet ... She has long brown hair and is in her early thirties. You can imagine the rest, just insert your favorite muse here. Her father was a soldier, and used to tell her exciting stories of the exotic places they sent him to on Earth. They were living on Luna at the time, but he died when she was twelve. Her mother kept them together for a while by painting scenery for some of the traveling entertainment troupes. They went with them to Mars for a year, but then came back down to Earth. By the time she was sixteen she had been in dozens of cities on all three worlds. Then her mother was killed by her abusive lover, and Kunnigunde ran off to San Francisco. Her poetry is mythic, heroic, and violent. She describes huge events, and her characters respond bravely. That is the way she sees life. More information can be found in the characterization for Time Travelers Are Schizophrenic.
- Renaissance Aaouen: (Human) ... the Queen of Souls ... The seven year old daughter of Sievaahdra Jesstar Aaouen and Kunnigunde Wolf, born on Aargh Gough shortly after the destruction of the three worlds of Humanity. Her curly yellow hair is destined to turn darker in a few years like her mother’s. Aargh Gough is her home and its citizens are her friends. Like her mother and father, Rennie is a story teller.
- Philosss: (Ssstiessen) ... student ... a computer expert ... a reluctant young hero, frugal and shy. Born on Wissatassidine twenty-five galactic years ago, she believes that her deceased parents were common food merchants who kept her out of the business, preferring that she study and then get a government job.
- Deadfeather: (Weanu) ... a fundamentalist old priest ... He is a dedicated footsoldier in the Church’s war on heresy and has been watching Rennie for weeks.
- Brother Swift: (Weanu) ... A mid-level functionary in the Church of Constant Truth and not a true believer. His claws are painted gold and his bionic wings rustle like dried paper. He wears an amulet hanging from the ornamental chain around his neck. He thinks Deadfeather is a foolish old fundamentalist seeing heresy everywhere.
- Soarshigh: (Weanu) ... The head of the Church of Constant Truth on Aargh Gough, he is taller and younger than Deadfeather and his wings were covered by golden designs. He has a habit of clasping his hands in front of him, while tugging unconsciously at the broad wing straps that cross his chest. When he smiles his short beak is unchangeable but the feathers covering his face rearrange themselves. Rennie names him Icarus.
